'Scaup-type' Aythya hybrid

Somerset is famous for its in-breeding, and this small flock of Greater Scaups at Cheddar has clearly embraced that proud tradition. This hybrid turned up in January 2008, and was initially identified as a Lesser Scaup. And then a Greater Scaup. Looking at the photos it's not difficult to see why. Nevertheless, it's odd appearance quickly raised a few eyebrows, and closer views confirmed that it appeared to be an imposter...
