Juvenile Levaillant's Cuckoo Clamator levaillantii
Senegambia Hotel, Kololi Beach, The Gambia 5th December 2006
This bird, along with one sibling had been found before our arrival at the Senegambia. At the time of their discovery, the birds were still in full juvenile plumage and weren't quite fully-grown; their size at the time (only just larger than thier Brown Babbler hosts) and unstreaked throats, as well as a misleading description in the field guide led to them being identified as Jacobin Cuckoos Clamator jacobinus. Two weeks later, the one remaining bird is now noticeably larger than its host, and has already started its post-juvenile moult, acquiring clearly-marked streaks on its breast (2nd photo), diagnostic of Levaillant's Cuckoo.

Blue-breasted Kingfisher Halcyon malimbica torquata
Senegambia Hotel, Kololi Beach, The Gambia 6th December 2006
This bird flew into a tree near where I was standing and remained there for half an hour, oblivious to my presence - the best views of any kingfisher I've ever had anywhere in the world!
